Spray Tan

Spray tanning is a sunless tanning technique through which a thin mist is sprayed on the body to achieve a golden glow.   The results of a spray tan are temporary and can last up to 7 days. Spray tanning allows you to have a beautiful bronze tan and not pose any health risks to your skin during the process.

The active ingredient of the mist is known as Dihydroxyacetone (DHA). A colorless sugar gotten from plants, DHA is FDA approved for use for cosmetic purposes.  DHA has been used for the medicinal treatment of skin color problems since the 1960s.

During spray tanning, DHA reacts with the amino acids on the epidermis, which causes the dead skin cells to darken. For comparison, UV lights from the Sun and tanning beds penetrate the dermis and pose long-lasting health risks.

Preparing for a Spray Tan Session

After booking an appointment for you spray tan session, here are some of the steps you can take to achieve a glowing bronze tan.:

  • Clean:

Bath or take a shower, and do not apply perfumes or lotions.  Exfoliate: Use a soft cotton washcloth to remove dead skin.

  • Shave:

Wax or shave in advance to avoid having open pores, which can lead to skin irritation.

  • Moisturize:

Use light moisturizers to help keep your skin soft and moisturized. Avoid heavy products such as body lotion.

  • Plan accordingly:

While some people prefer being completely naked during tanning, you might want to wear something that only exposes the parts you want to tan if you do not want to get your whole body tanned.

Advantages of Spray Tan

Spray tanning is a very easy technique. All that needs to be done is have the body sprayed in a fine mist that is then left to dry and blend in making it an easier alternative to other tanning forms like applying self-tanning lotions.

Unlike other forms of self-tanning products, spray tanning dries off much faster, thus reducing the chances of a spray tan getting on to your clothes.

Disadvantages of Spray Tan

The main disadvantage of spray tanning is the cost of a tanning session. While the cost of tanning varies from one place to the other, generally, spray tanning is more expensive compared to other forms of tanning, such as self-tanning lotions.

Spray tanning can be inconvenient to some people. From scheduling appointments to having to drive in for a spray tan session every few days, spray tanning can be time-consuming.
